The Most Exciting Project this Decade!

We all know the planet is in trouble and thousands of species are becoming extinct each year due to human behaviour.  How we live is destroying the very systems that sustain us.  That’s insane.

But there is another way to live, let Wild Magic show you.

With over 70 acres of land, creating a haven for wildlife, food for humans, fun activities, sights and sounds that provide nature-based healing and nourish the soul.  Wild Magic is to celebrate the magic and beauty of wildlife and the natural world, and to help people find peace, joy and well being.  Your visit to Wild Magic is one you will never forget.

Our Mission:

Restore nature and biodiversity for all species of wildlife to flourish biodiversity.  As wildlife habitats vanish, Wild Magic is on a mission to reverse that loss…..

Enable people to make informed choices about how they live and what they buy

Connecting people with nature, and enabling everyone to heal from the inside, healing both land and community.

Our Values:

For all living beings (of every species) to be happy, healthy and have what they need to flourish:

At Wild Magic we believe nature is not just a backdrop but an essential partner in healing and personal transformation. We honour the natural world as a teacher, guide, and mirror.

We believe in experiential learning. Wild Magic invites people into embodied practices that reconnect them with their inner wisdom and strength

Our Plan for Wild Magic

First we rewild (taking it back to its original state) the site to provide a better habitat for wildlife

This process involves connecting wildlife:

  • Scrub-excellent habitat for wildlife
  • Transitional area
  • Majority of the UK was originally covered in scrub, grass & woodland/forest

Second, plant meadow (with wildflowers)

  • Supports pollinators
  • These pollinate our crops
  • Without pollinators we would die out
  • 97% of flower meadows destroyed since 1930’s

Third step, put in a network of hedgerows/traditional orchards

  • Man made but great for nature
  • Secure living fence
  • Mixture of native species
  • Creates wildlife corrdiors
  • 1/2 million km of hedgerows destroyed after WWII

Fourth step, Edible Magic

  • Community Garden
  • Regenerative agriculture
  • Permaculture (growing food for people and supporting nature at the same time)
Rewilding an area of land to provide nature-based healing
Garden planting

Why do we need it?

The Facts:

  • In the UK in the 20th century alone, we have lost over 97% of our wildflower meadows, 90% of coppiced woodland and 75,000 miles of hedgecrow, all important habitats for wildlife.
  • A scientific study published in 2018 found that 96% of all mammals on earth are either human or are livestock bred for our food, while only 4% are wild animals.

There is just one living creature in this entire field.  And it is the one driving the combine harvester.

Just a few decades ago, this field would have been several smaller fields, separated by hedgecrows, burgeoning with wildlife.

Our Gardens

With so little room in our countryside, our wildlife depends on gardens.  But our modern taste for tidy gardens doesn’t leave much room for birds to nest on or for our hedgehogs to hibernate, or roam between gardens with our impermeable fencing.

Nature-based healing

Multiple studies have found the strong link between access to nature and a reduced risk of mental health problems, improved mood, and increased life satisfaction.  Other benefits include reduced stress and better physical health.

A brief history of the land we now call Wild Magic

Pre – 2003:  Land was owned by the government and RAF Edlesborough.  It wasn’t very active during WWII, but it was very active during the Falklands War.  At this time the land was pasture.

2003-2024:  The land was growing crops

June 2024:  Land purchased by Marina Smith
